Amar Singh College Srinagar Celebrated “World No Tobacco Day”





BEIGH SHAMIM AHMED :-The NSS wing of Amar Singh College, Srinagar celebrated “World No Tobacco Day” on 31st May, 2013 in the Bukhari Hall of College. Dr. Shabnam Ara (NSS Programme Officer) while presenting the welcome address, briefed about the significance of organizing such programmes to create awareness about tobacco hazards. The Guest of Honour, Mr. Imtiyaz Ismail Parray (IPS) in his address highlighted the legal and legislative aspect of tobacco abuse, stressing upon getting acquainted with the laws and rights available to us to curb this menace. On the occasion NSS volunteers presented a skit themed “tamakh tawan” and a Ladisha which were eye opener for the public regarding tobacco menace. Prof. M. H. Nadvi, Senior Faculty member gave the religious perspective of tobacco abuse and condemned its use quoting many verses from Holy Quran and Hadith. Dr. Sheikh Tanveer Salam, Assistant Professor Zoology gave the medical perspective of the tobacco addiction, displaying some disturbing pictures of Cancers and Gangrenes caused by Smoking with an explicit message for both students and teachers to quit smoking. Dr Gulzar Ahmad Paddar (Staff Secretary) in his concluding address suggested that glorification of smoking through media and pressure from friends and peer groups are mainly responsible for tobacco menace in our young generation.  Rapporteurs for the programme were Dr. Nikhat Nabi and Dr. Altaf  Hussain Parra. The programme was concluded by vote of thanks by Dr. Tahmina Yousuf (Head Department of Zoology)

IGP Kashmir promotes 487 HCs to ASIs





Srinagar, May 28: Inspector General of Police, Kashmir, Sh. Abdul Ghani Mir today ordered the promotion of 487 Head Constables to the rank of Assistant Sub-Inspectors. Earlier, 140 Assistant Sub inspectors were promoted to the rank of sub Inspectors in the month of April this year by Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Zone.Departmental Promotion Committee headed by IGP, Kashmir, Sh. Abdul Ghani Mir  today met at Zonal Police Headquarters, Srinagar wherein 487 Head Constables were promoted to the next rank of Assistant Sub Inspectors in the pay scale of Rs.5200-20200+GP 2800.n his message to the newly promoted officers, the IGP congratulated the officers and their families on their promotions and impressed upon them to work with more dedication and devotion for the welfare of the people. IGP further added that the promotions, besides, offering cheer to the officers also brings in more responsibilities on their shoulders and they should work tirelessly in meeting the expectations of the people and the department. Feroz interacts with Union MOS Pleads for improving communication network in State










SRINAGAR, MAY 24: Minister of State for Science & Technology, School Education, Medical Education & Youth Services and Sports Mr. Feroz Ahmad Khan met the Union Minister of State for Communications & Information Technology, Dr. Killi Karuparani, today.During the half an hour meeting, the Ministers discussed various issues pertaining to Information Technology/ Communication network in the state. The issues including lying of NOFN cable were also discussed in the meeting.The Minister also presented a charter of demands regarding improvements of communication network in Zanskar, upgradation of RBSC Kargil into BSC Kargil, increasing the capacity of satellite media in case of GSM calls when OFC breaks down and provision of internet facility at Zanskar.The Union Minister assured Mr. Feroz that their genuine demands would be looked into on priority.Among others, Chief Post Master General, J&K Circle Mr. John Samuel, Chief General Manager, Mr. K. K. Koul and General Manager PLI, Mr. Charan Dass,were also present in the meeting.

Pay anomaly row in Police,DGP shots letter to Chief Secretary No action has been taken , Govt is in slumber,Thousands of cops ignored again









BEIGH SHAMIM AHMED :-May 21: Director General of Police Ashok Prasad in an apparent move to relieve police force from financial problems has shot a letter to Chief Secretary Mohammad Iqbal Khandey appealing him to consider the issue of pay anomaly in different ranks of Jammu and Kashmir Police.Soon after the Cabinet approved the removal of pay anomaly for Revenue Officers on Tuesday, DG Police Ashok Prasad shot a letter vide reference number Estt/PG-5/11/09-22496 to Chief Secretary Mohammad Iqbal Khandey lamenting that this issue which has been under the consideration of the State Government for a pretty long time has not been addressed yet.“Since the issue of pay anomaly pertains to about 90 per cent of the police strength, resolution of the same would have a very positive effect on the overall morale of the force. It is accordingly requested that the matter may kindly be looked into for expeditious disposal and issuance of the formal orders by the concerned department at an earliest,” the letter reads.The letter further reads that the formal orders in this regard are yet to be issued by the Finance Department although the matter has repeatedly been brought into the notice of the concerned by the Police Head Quarter (PHQ).“Even after issuances of the 6th Pay Commission vide SRO 93/2009 dated 15-4-2009, the issue of anomalies continues to persist as the State Government did not address the same during 6th Pay Commission recommendations.Mean while thousands of police cops working in different wings suffering badly since for a long time and no action has been taken by the Government till date and the Govt unresolved their pay anomaly pending with the state government.

Police public meeting held in Baramulla





Srinagar, May 21: Baramulla police organized a police public meeting with respectable of various villages at Bijhama, Uri.A police public meeting was held by SHO police station Bijhama in which respectable and  members of village Bijhama, Lachipora and Braripora in the premises of Police Station Bijhama.Various public issues were highlighted by the participants. The participants demanded regular Bus service be started from Uri to Bijhama and Boniyar to Bijhama, for the benefit of employees and students. Besides, a competent Doctor be posted in Primary health centre Bijhama.The SHO assured the participants that their issues and demands will be taken up with the concern quarters at the earlist.

Baramulla to observe shut Down on Sham’s Visit 'Civil society for cause decries his role in Drug racket







The Baramullah civil society  for cause ,a conglomerate of writers, traders, thinkers,Professionals and students ,appeals the conscience driven people of Baramulla to observe shut down on 23rd of may ,the day former minister of Health a key conspirator in spurious drug racketis visiting the town .The move has beennecessitated to show solidarity with the civil society of Kashmir which has risen against the Govt’s inaction to punish the guilty.”We view the spurious drug racket as a conspiracy to kill the kashmiri people,how can we forget the death  of hundreds of children last year at G B Pant hospital.We kept on blaming the doctors but never knew that what we were administering our children in the name of medicine actually poision shielded and patronized by the powers at the helm.They added that ‘we want to assured the civil society of Kashmir and form  against spurious drugs that we stand by them in this crusade, shoulder to shoulder and the shut sown of 23rd may would be a symbolic gesture of that .We appeal  the traders ,transporters , students and Govt employees to make this shut down a success.we also request Baramulla Beopar Mandal to support the said causeand requested thse people of town to boycott Sham lal Sharma on his visit and greet him with black flags.They appealed the chief minister to take action against the accusedin the spurious drug scamincluding sham lal Sharma and not test our patience and let the situation go out of hand.

Srinagar, : Urging party High Command to punish the culprits involved in spurious drug scam, Congress workers from Valley apprised UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi about the prevailing situation in Kashmir and alleged that High Command has deprived Kashmir based Congress leaders from all the important portfolios as a result the supporters of the party in Kashmir have been suffering from inferiority complex.These Congress workers also met Union Health Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad, State Congress Chief Prof Saif-u-Din Soz, Mohan Prakash and Jhanardhan Divedi.One of the workers present in the delegation told that they raised hue and cry over the spurious drug scam and urged upon the Party top brass especially Madam Sonia Gandhi to take stern action against the culprits. “We didn’t mention the name of any minister. Even Sonia told us that the no Congress leader from Kashmir pin pointed those issues which we highlighted,” one of the members, said.He said that though spurious drug scam was discussed thoroughly, however, “we also complained that congress party in Kashmir was not taken on board on the issue of execution of Mohammad Afzal Guroo. All the workers in one voice said that the party has received a setback in Valley after Guroo’s execution,” he said.“If you can sack Peerzada Mohammad Syed and G.M.Saroori for their faults then why you are reluctant to sack those involved in spurious drug scam. We requested party top brass to take action against the guilty,” he said.These workers included District President Srinagar, Abdul Gani Khan, Mohammad Amin Khutlari (Kupwara), Mohammad Abdhullah Nadaf (State General Secretary), Mushtaq Ahmed Khandey (Shopian), Fayaz Ahmed Dar (Pulwama) Chodhri Salam Din (Kupwara) G.M.Rafique (Bandipora) and Mohammad Maqbool Bhat from Pattan.

Earthquake damages 5 house in Anantnag




Srinagar, May 02: Due to an Earth quake five residential houses of Mohammad Ismail Tass son of Mohammad Akbar, Farooq Ahmad Geegi son of Abdul Kareem, Mohammad Hussain son of Ghulam Qadir Tass, Bashir Ahmad Kuli son of Lal-ud-Din and Bashir Ahmad Shah son of Ghulam Nabi residents of Ahlan Bala and building of Government Middle School Ahlan, Anantnag, in the jurisdiction of police station Kokernag.Howver, no one was hurt in the incident.

Body recovered in Kulgam




Srinagar, May 02: Kulgam police recovered a body of an unidentified person in Golab Bagh forests in Qazigund. Kulgam police recovered a body of an unidentified person lying in the Golab Bagh forests. The body was in semi decomposed condition and was wearing blue warmer, white undershirt and black trouser, besides a Bangle (Kadda) was also found on his arm. The age of the deceased is about 45 years and height 5 Feet 2”. Police station Qazigund has initiated an inquest and proceeding U/S 174 CrPC in this regard. The body was sent for post mortem and was later kept in police station Qazigund for identification.   or Police Control Room, Srinagar on 100.

Scintillating music enthralls audience at B Ed College ,Zonal Finale of “Choona Hai Aasman III” held







Srinagar, May 02: A grand finale of a musical talent hunt show “Choona Hai Aasman-III” was today held at the Auditorium of College of Education in Srinagar.The talent hunt competition was hosted by Zonal police Hqrs Kashmir in collaboration with College of Education in which 22 contestants participated for Junior and Senior titles of Solo Singing only. A panel of judges who include eminent musician Ejaz Rah, Muneer Mir and Altaf Saahil.Hon’ble minister of Higher Education Mr. Mohammad Akbar Lone was the Chief Guest and Vice Chancellor Kashmir University Mr. Talat Ahmad was the Guest of Honor on the occasion.Speaking on the occasion Sh. Mohammad Akbar Lone appreciated J&K police for organizing the program. He said that J&K police has faced a lot of challenges during the last two decades and has come up successful in all its endeavors. He said that more and more such programmes need to be organised and his department will provide all possible help in this regard.Inspector General of Police Mr. Abdul Ghani Mir in his welcome address thanked all participants and the guests, IGP said that the program “Choona Hai Aasman” a musical talent hunt show and other Sports competitions are being sponsored by J&K police over a few years with the aim to give a platform to the talented youth of our state. He said that this is the third consecutive season of this talent hunt programme , which has been highly appreciated by the people.The program saw some scintillating musical performances by budding youth that enthralled the audiences. The 22 finalist competed for the Zonal titles who performed in presence of a large gathering of music lovers including students, faculties, civil and police administrations and their families.The judges declared Hazif Bilal and Urooj Javed as winners in the junior category while as Arsalaan Hamid and Lafiz Bilal were declared runners up. Waqar Khan and Masarat Aziz bagged the senior titles while as Tanveer Ali and Sabeeka Wani were declared the runners up.Jammu and Kashmir Police is organizing this talent hunt programme since last three years in which a good number of candidates both male and female, from all walks of life preferably music lovers actively compete to test their aptitude and exhibit talent. This year’s format for conduct of “Choona Hai Aasman-3rd” was restricted to Solo Singing only. The programme started from district level and will end up in at state level finals. The winners from district level competed in the range level and those who secured merit in range level competed today at zonal level.In order to promote and harness the talent of the winners efforts are also made to impart special training to those who secure merit in the grand final for their better future in the field of music. Last year all the participants were provided opportunity to meet celebrities of Bollywood in this field viz- Ismail Darbar and winners were sent to Mumbai for exposure and training with close collaboration with eminent musicians.Noteables that witnessed the programme included Divisional Commissioner Mr. Shalidar Kumar, DC Srinagar Mr. Farooq Ahmad, , SSP Srinagar SAH Bukhari, SSP Budgam Mr Uttam Chand , SSP Security Mr. Rafiq-ul-Hasan , SP CIK Sheikh Junaid, SP Sopore Mr. Imtiyaz Ahmad all zonal SP’s of Srinagar city.In his vote of thanks DIG Mr. S .A  Mujtaba tanked the participants guests and media for their active support.Hon’ble Minister and V C Kashmir University distributed the trophies among the winners and runners up.
