Technology Department under National e-Governance plan (NeGP). The Data centre
has been developed as a reliable and secure infrastructure for hosting and
managing e-Governance application for different departments and delivers

through their own small setups of servers as per their application requirement
or some kind of storage for their digitized date etc. But, global safety norms
could not be followed in such type of setups. Therefore, concept of State Data
Centre as core infrastructure was evolved under the National e-Governance Plan
for running e-governance activities. State Data Centre (SDC) is one of the
important elements of the core infrastructure for supporting e-Governance
initiatives in the J&K State. State Data Centre will provide many
facilities like central repository of the State, secure Data storage, Disaster
Recovery. The most important data set of National Population Register (NPR)
will also be stored by the Information Technology Department in this data
centre. State Data centre is equipped with SAN storage, Blade servers,
dedicated bandwidth of 20 Mbps with provision of backup connectivity from
different ISPs, complete power redundancy and integrated management system to
monitor the health of Data Centre. The State Data Centre shall enable
aggregation of IT Infrastructure (Hardware, Storage, Networking and Software)
and Management Resources and ensure better Operations, Standardization of
Systems and management control leading to faster deployment and reduced costs,
offering dynamic scalability as their demand grows including security related
requirements and uptime of the highest order. The data centre currently hosts
GP Fund applications and some other applications of other departments are in
the process of migration. The prestigious CCTNS project of Ministry of Home
Affairs will be hosted on the data centric directly as and when it is
completed. Moreover, the State spatial data centre project laboratory will also
be directly connected to the SDC in future and this will enable hosting of Geo
Spatial data of various departments in a safe and secure manner.
