State to have new education policy shortly: Feroz

 JUNE 06:  Minister of State for Education Mr, Feroz Ahmad Khan today said that a new education policy is being formulated for the state soon.Announcing this while interacting with representatives of UNICEF and Save the Child (NGOs) here today, Mr. Feroz said that a committee has already been constituted in this regard which will submit its recommendations and draft note to the government shortly. The work is also going on in segregating the cadre for Elementary and Secondary education.Mr. Feroz said that the funds meant for construction purpose under SSA would be directly transferred to School managements during this fiscal, adding that prior to; these funds were transferred to Village Education Committee (VEC).The Minister informed that the SIEs would be upgraded to SCERT level which will help in implementing and monitoring various education programmes and schemes effectively.The Minister said that achieving 68 per cent literacy rate in the State has shown significant progress in education over the past decades. He said that efforts are also afoot to strengthen the school infrastructure, improve teacher capacities and teaching-learning methods and materials under SSA.The Minister lauded the role of NGO ‘Save the Child’ for imparting education in the state in general and Ladakh in particular.  The Members of the NGOs offered their services for improving the education system in the State. Among others, Secretary, School Education Mr. Shaleen Kabra, State Project Director, RMSA Mr. Hilal Ahmad Parray, Director School Education, Kashmir Mr. Mir Tariq Ali,  Project Director, SSA, Mr. S C Sawhney, Joint Director, Directorate of School Education, Jammu Mr. Anil Kumar Jain, besides representatives from Save the Child and UNICEF were present in the meeting
