100 militants active in South, North Kashmir: IG CRPF

16 December ,INB NEWS KASHMIR :- While denying the use of Armed Forces Special Act during anti-militant operations, IG CRPF S S Sindhu on Saturday claimed that the number of active militants in South and North Kashmir is not more than 100, a count that contradict with the earlier statements of Police and Army institutions regarding active militants in the Valley.While talking to Media on the sidelines of a function in South Kashmir's Kokernag area, IG CRPF expressed his satisfaction over the current prevailing situation in the Valley. "Kashmir has changed very much, peace is prevailing in the valley, tourists are visiting the valley and for this whole credit goes to general public that cooperated with security agencies in fighting against the evil designs of Pakistan." IG said.He said, "Militancy in the valley has reached to its minimum possible level as compared to nineties as around 100 militants are active in south and North of the valley excluding the OGWs."However, Jammu and Kashmir Police chief on 5th November of this year claimed that the number of active militants in the valley is around 250; while as 15 Corps General Officer Commanding Lt General Om Prakash in Srinagar on July 17 claimed the number of active militants in valley is 300.When asked, after IG CRPF praised valley people for contributing in restoring peaceful atmosphere in valley, that is present situation favourable for the revocation of AFSPA, he said, "See we are not using AFSPA, we are doing operations with very carefully in order to assure no rights violations." Adding that the AFSPA Act is now only on papers.
