Disaster preparedness training held at Ganderbal, Civil Defence Training Institute to come up in Kashmir







 March 30th:Disaster Preparedness training and an intra school symposium was organised by Civil Defence Srinagar at New Dreamland Educational Institute, Beehama, Ganderbal today. The programme was inaugurated by Commandant State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) 1st Battalion Mehraj Ahmed Shah. More than 150 students participated in the programme and Anisa Hamid of Class 8th stood first, Shah Zarafshan Class 9th second and Umar Farooq Class 9th third. Four consolation prizes were also distributed amongst Gausia Fayaz (Class 8th), Mansha Khursheed (9th), Shahrukh Ahad (8th) and Faisal Qadir (8th). The students were judged by Aamir Ali and Mauzam Bakshi, Deputy Chief Wardens Civil Defence and Miss Afshana. Speaking on the occasion Mehraj A Shah announced that a Civil Defence Training Institute would be set up in Kashmir, very soon, where students and youth would be imparted specialised disaster preparedness training by the CD trainers. He also assured that Civil Defence would continue to support disaster preparedness training programmes. He appreciated the voluntary services provided by Aamir Ali and Mauzam Bakhshi in their capacity as Deputy Chief Wardens of Srinagar in providing disaster preparedness training to the community. Shah gave details about the equipments and trained man-power available with SDRF which are always in readiness to cope up with any untoward incident or natural disaster. On the occasion Shabir Ahmed Khan ASI (M) Officiating Dy. Controller CD, BA Shah, Chairman and Pir Ghulam Mohi-u-din, Vice Principal of the School were also present. Sartaj Parray demonstrated use of Gas Safety Device. Civil Defence Srinagar also organised five days disaster preparedness training under CD trainer Abdul Gaffar at Govt High School Manigam, Shaheen Public School Ganderbal and Hanfiya High School Nunnar, which concluded today.
